Summer Hair Afterlife.

images

As your tan fades and fall approaches, chances are your sun-streaked summer hair could use a little TLC. Follow these steps and you’ll make autumn the season of gorgeous hair days.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Summer hair damage isn’t going to just repair itself, treat parched manes with a moisturizing shampoo followed by a moisturizing conditioner. Be sure to apply the conditioner where sun-damaged hair needs it most–from the mid-shaft to the tip. Hair isn’t as dry at the roots thanks to its natural oils, so condition there more sparingly.

Handle With Care
To baby your stressed tresses, apply a leave-in detangler. This will add an extra boost of conditioner and also gently smooth and separate strands, so you won’t have to tug at snags with a comb. That kind of rough handling can add further damage to your hair.  When your hair is wet, only use a wide-toothed comb to prepare it for styling.  Even when it’s dry, you want to use the minimum number of brushstrokes it takes to achieve or refresh your style.

Get Deep
If your hair still look lackluster after using rinse-out and leave-in conditioners, call in the SWAT team: a concentrated hair-conditioning treatment or mask. To get all the benefits from the nourishing ingredients, apply the conditioner section-by-section to your hair.   Start at the tips and work toward the roots. Then, leave it on for a few minutes while you buff your skin with your favorite body scrub. (Your skin can also use some extra care now!) The steam from the shower will help the product really penetrate the hair shaft.

Tweak Your Color
Sun exposure can leave your hair looking dull and brassy, especially if it’s color-processed. And the streaks that looked glowing against bronzed skin will wash out fall’s paler complexion. Maintain a flattering balance by adding rich tones to your hair. That means auburn, chestnut, chocolate and coffee if you’re a brunette; caramel, gold and toffee if you’re a blonde. An at-home or salon gloss will also restore shine to your hair so it gleams on even a cloudy fall day.

Cut Your Losses
Chlorine, sun, salt, ponytail elastics — all can lead to frayed and fried ends. Left alone, those split ends are going to continue to split. A half-inch trim will make a world a difference — leaving you with well-defined, healthy ends that will show off your hairstyle, whether it’s a modern bob, a pixie, straight and sleek or long, sexy waves.

Why Organic hair color?

Anna7

The past year working with Organic systems has been great.  So Im reposting information about this line.  This year at the end of February  I am adding hair extensions a great way to change your look, add volume, or just for the fun of it!

I love the results and feed back I get from clients in 2013.  For those of you who are conscious about their lifestyle and our environment, this color line exceeds the norm in results and handling. It’s really one of a kind.

How it works..
The key difference with OCS is that not only is it the base of the color (the main ingredient); which is alkaline, so it raises the pH of the hair. But it is also a conditioning agent; so it softens the cuticle at the same time.  This softening process means that OCS is able to work at a far lower pH and is a far gentler way to color the hair than ammonia-based colors.

Unlike ammonia which operates at a high pH and swells the cuticle, literally forcing the pigments into the hair, Organic Color Systems moisturizes the hair which softens the cuticle, allowing it to open at a lower pH and enabling the color to wind itself through the layers of cuticle.

Why?
Health of staff and clients, far better condition of the clients’ hair, the fact that clients are increasingly asking for it and no smell of ammonia in the salon.

Organic Salon Systems is a company build on integrity and inspiration. We are committed to eradicating dangerous toxins in the salon environment without sacrificing product performance or beautiful results. We are confident that we will accomplish this through nurturing the beauty, dignity, respect, health, and well-being of all.

Beauty

And a poet said, Speak to us of beauty……

We have seen her leaning over the earth

From the windows of the sunset….

She shall come with the spring

Leaping upon the hills

And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.

It is not a mouth thirsting

Nor an empty hand stretched forth,

But rather a heart inflamed

And a soul enchanted.

It is not an image you would see

Nor the song you would hear;

But rather an image you see though

You close your eyes and a song you hear

Though you shut your ears.

It is not the sap within the furrowed bark,

Nor a wing attached to claw,

But rather a garden forever in bloom

And a flock of angels forever in flight.

Beauty is life

When life unveils her holy face.

But you are life and you are the veil.

Beauty is eternity gazing

 at itself in a mirror,

But you are eternity and you are the mirror.

Orb, Verrazan, & Rosie

Whether you are barside or at the races placing bets … mint juleps, hats & hairstyles … that charm will be making an appearance today at the 139th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Here are some sure bets for your hair with or without the hat.

Oh & gotta love Rosie.
Have an awesome weekend.

Man Style

Oh yes, sideburns have no boundaries.  Race car drivers, politicians, comedians, musicians, athletes, and heart throbs alike sport this look. I’m not sure which one I like the best, but they all get points for the super manly quality added to their hairstyle by working the burns.

Life is too short to be little.  Man is never so manly as when he feels deeply, acts boldly, and expresses himself with frankness and with fervor.
~ Benjamin Disraeli

Have a beautiful weekend. It’s a great time to test out growing in these looks.

A one dimensional view.

Unknown-2

Mirror mirror on the wall…

Your friend and/or your enemy.

After years of watching clients sit in my chair, talk about their hair, their frustrations with it, the things they like, don’t like or don’t want to change. There is always a moment when you notice how a person sees themselves in a one-dimensional mirror. How this flat perspective can be deceiving to the person on the other side.

First, most people do not get this flat view, or see you when your chin is down or when you’re looking at yourself with a tilt of your head, focused on things you don’t like. With mirror’s and photograph’s we build our ideas of how we look and yes to some degree they are true.

This view is hardly ever animated with a true smile, a look of happiness, compassion, or eyes filled with moment. Which is how the rest of the world gets to see you. From the side, from the back, from all the angles and more than that … you … caught in a moment; whatever that moment may be. These moments are always a perspective mostly unseen by you.

I’ve never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful.

I wrote this post ages ago not ready to publish it when I saw this video it completed my thinking.

Its good to be bad. Five decadent things for your skin & hair.

Monroe

American beauty culture is teeming with rules. Always do this, never do that, and for the love of God, don’t ever do the other, and herein lies the rub, literally and figuratively. Americans in general take very little time for massage, facials and other bodycare; in my experience over the last decade, well over half my clients view getting facials as a special treat rather than a legitimate practice for their overall epidermal health. What’s more, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, at least 60 countries far surpass us in vacation time, whether paid or unpaid, and anyone who has ever worked in a service profession knows that there’s a tacit implication that it’s noble to work while sick, despite all evidence to the contrary. We get less sleep than most countries’ citizens, thus cementing Americans in our position among the least kind to our collective epidermis, instead always searching for the quickest fix.

We are inundated with an ever-burgeoning glut of celebrity dermatologists’ cutting-edge procedures, technologies, and newly minted game-changers in the constantly churning active-ingredient market. I love a great moisturizer with retinoids or glycolic acid; however, I am skeptical of products that claim to do 10 things; surely if those 10 benefits existed in one product, at least three of the active ingredients would contraindicate each other. It’s just not feasible that a single moisturizer could contain a stable, and therefore realistically productive, combination of active ingredients in high enough amounts to actually do something.

I am not saying that nothing works, nor do I suggest that products shouldn’t be tested cautiously. In fact, I try almost everything; I’m a shameless beauty-product addict, having long ago become an aesthetician to parlay my obsession into a profession. I consider it part of my job to discover the next jewel in the rock-pile of What Works. To some, the mere thought is exhausting. To me, good times. Therefore, here are the five things that are tried and truly excellent for your skin—and to us overworked, stressed-out Americans, may feel positively decadent:

Eat guacamole as often as possible. Avocados are high in good fat and oil, and your face will thank you.

Get a facial at least every three months. This isn’t terribly expensive, and the more massage, the better; tell your aesthetician that you really enjoy the massage portions of your service. Facial massage stimulates cell turnover, circulation and collagen production. Plus, it feels really good, and you need that in your life, right?

Get more sleep. As I’ve mentioned previously, your skin does its best work as you sleep, making your products optimally effective and promoting fresh, bright eyes (and firming the surrounding tissue).

Put on a little weight if you’re thin. Your face loses volume as you age, and it can cause you to look haggard and more wrinkly (I got really skinny when I was injured a couple of years ago, and I can definitely attest to this.) The gorgeous and timelessly stunning actress Catherine Deneuve is rumored to have remarked that at a certain age, a woman must choose between her butt and her face. My face wins that hands-down. A lot more people (probably) see your face than your rear end.

Get down, make love. Sexologist and southern belle Dr. Gloria Bramer claims that having sex increases blood circulation, encourages cell turnover and amplifies collagen production, among many more epidermal bonuses. Just having an orgasm plumps lips, as well as producing dopamine and other happy hormonal bursts, all of which also increase cell turnover and circulation. Not to mention the sexy flush it brings to your cheeks!

So sleep late, get a facial massage, have some sex and eat guacamole I say it’s our duty as Americans to change our all-work-no-play image.

Thank you Arika Casebolt

Baltimore-based aesthetician Arika Casebolt knows good skin in every season.

Easy, right! Whats good for your Skin translates to good for your HAIR. So I think you know how to do all this, but here is some avocado 101 and my two favorite ways to eat them plus Rodan and Fields skin care line that I am in love with.

Avocado’s…
Considered an aphrodisiac by some, this fruit is also high in good fat and packed with vitamins and fiber.

In addition to their high oleic acid content, avocados are a good source of dietary fiber and vitamin K, vitamin C and vitamin B6, as well as folate, copper and potassium (half of a medium avocado has more potassium than a banana). Studies have suggested that the fats in avocados may speed the absorption of carotenoids in other vegetables, another good reason to include them in salads and salsas.

Avocado, goat cheese, lime, & mint or simply the best way cut in half sprinkled with sea salt eaten right out of the skin.
